THE LAST TEN SECONDS

And in the tenth second, I saw the fatal boat upon a cloudy and threatening sea.
In the ninth second, I felt ever the Shadow of future ill darken the present hour.
And in the eighth second, I remember the short sighted mortals welcoming death.
In the seventh second or whatever, I think of Hislop, and The two English sailors laughing.
And in the sixth second of evermore, I see the
Howling women of San Torenzo, dancing naked in the Moonlite waves.
In the fifth second for evermore, I thought of the Sacred Stones, only those I loved.
In the fourth second of forever, I see such a pleasing mask disguise his grim form, and Charles. Vivian.
In the third second of what ever , I feel the presence of death upon me.
In the second, second or what ever, I see the clouds of the tempest pass away, No sign remained of where it had lay‘n.
And in the first and final second of ever, I thought of the burning body on the seashore, Of Byron, the heart, planks, strewn, rotting on the Ionion island’s shore.

‘The breath whose might I invoked in song
desends on me:
My spirit’s bark is driven far from the shore, far from the trembling throng.
Whose sails were never to the tempest given.
The massy Earth and sphered skies are riven!
I am borne darkly, fearfully, afar;
Whilst burning through the ethereal vapours.
The soul of Adonais, like a star, beacons from the abode, where the eternal are.’

lyrics

Lyrics: Percy Bysshe Shelley

This morn thy gallant bark
Sailed on a sunny sea ;
“tis noon, and tempest dark
Have wrecked it upon the lee.
Ah woe ! Ah woe !
By spirits of the deep
Thou’rt cradled on the billow
To thy eternal sleep.

Thou sleep’s upon the shore
Beside the knelling surge,
And Sea nymphs evermore
Shall sadly chant thy dirge.
They come, they come,
The spirits of the deep,-
While near thy seaweed pillow
My lonely watch I keep.

From far across the sea
I hear a loud lament,
By Echo’s voice for thee
From Ocean’s caverns sent.
O list ! O list !
The spirits of the deep !
They raise a wall of sorrow,
While I forever weep
